Romance in the Dark > Ending

Hi Folks, This week we are finishing up "Romance in the Dark" with the bridge and last verse. We start the last bridge with a bit more motion with double stops on the 4 that are reminiscent of a horn line. First the 5th and the third then flatting the third for the 4 minor then I harmonize a blues line with more double stops on the one and 4 again then resolve the bridge with Db minor to F# 7 and B7 to E7. I start the last verse with an octave on the D and high E string with 4 beats per measure as to not get in the way of the vocal. Then it flows into a double stop line for the rest of the verse up to the 1-6-2-5 final turn around leading to the single note to double stop final blues riff to end the song. Mixing up the single note lines, double stops and chords can make a song like this be more musically interesting and by playing all these types of parts you create a nice rich musical palette for the vocal to sit on. Try this concept on another tune and see if you can make your own arrangement building it up with a little more movement as it goes along. Enjoy! Duke

What a great series of lessons! Did this when it first came out on SJ, now I'm doing my homework and picking up loads that I missed!

PS absolutley lobve the 'Tikki Lounge' album - anytime you feel like teaching more from it i'm up for it! Bye Bye Blues? : )

Hey Duke! Finally got around to working on this one. What a pretty tune, and Sunny's voice is so sweet on it. Still got plenty of room for improvement but I was wondering if you had any feedback or comments on the improvisational work on this. Or anything else! Thanks a lot! Bruce

Love this song. I could not get a good balance between the track and my guitar. hence the tone of the guitar is not as nice as it really is.

Nice to be able to tackle a new tune.

Cheers
