The Things I Used To Do > Chords

Hi Folks,

This week we a start on the classic Guitar Slim blues "TheThings That I Used To Do" as always we start with the rhythm guitar. in this tune it's very important to keep the rhythm simple and consistent. We have plenty of time to dig into the wild guitar stuff. But without the 12/8 rhythm feel going consistently the song falls on its face. There is a very simple turn around use d throughout the song and it must be played as taught here. The horn line, which is often played by the bass locks in the the rhythm guitar or piano to create a solid foundation for the vocal and lead guitar. So learn the rhythm correctly and next week we learn the first vocal verse guitar that plays around the voice. I also show how to go about getting the raw Guitar Slim sound. Its gonna be a fun one.

Enjoy!

Duke

You need to get a convertible caddy and a serious suit, drive around town with a bullhorn advertising the show letting all the pretty girls know to come here you play...to get that authentic guitar slim feel thing. Don't forget that part.

Always loved the Specialty Guitar Slim record -- so many great songs: I Done Got Over It, Bad Luck Blues, Sufferin' Mind, Reap What You Sow, etc. I believe I read once that The Things I Used To Do and some others from the LP were arranged and produced by a very young Ray Charles. Incredible song, of course, and I always loved hearing you play it. Thanks, Duke.
