The Things I Used To Do > Lead Guitar, 1st Vocal Verse

Hi Folks,

This week we are working on the lead guitar around the vocal on the first verse. Guitar Slim's playing here is unique to say the least. First off he played with a capo on the first fret here for the key of F. So it's as if he were playing in open E. His simple lines are as gospel oriented as blues and his touch is light with his amp turned up. He is also playing with his fingers which creates a beautifully subtle but powerful sound with his P-90 equipped Les Paul. If you follow my instructions carefully you will eventually get the idea of how to reproduce the essence of Slim's sound. The use of a distortion devise is helpful to create that sound.

Remember now, a light touch using your fingers or thumb will do the trick here.

Enjoy!

Duke
