Blues Came to Texas > Lesson 1

In this lesson we will start to learn Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Blues Came to Texas" in the key of A. I run through the tune to give you an idea of how it is supposed to sound. I also break down the three chords used in the song and the intro. If you find that keeping a steady bass is difficult, then focus on that first. Once you have that, then you can move on to the other parts of the song. As always, take your time and enjoy. See you next week.

Finally understand that b string stretch. Been hearing one of my favorite blues players do it here in Dallas. Lightning Hopkins is one of his favorites with the Deep Ellum influence here.

Alex Barbera
Alex Barbera Jun 02, 2012 in Bologna quite well....we had to face two heavvy earthquakes as you maybe have heard..In the province there has been a lot problems..entire villages destroyed and a lot of people had to leave their houses...It's really a bad situation but no problems in the place where I live...:))

Yes this tune is similar to everybody ought to change...this is the reason why I can get something of general I find it more difficoult...exspecially the slidin part on the 4th and the solo on the 5th...Is tough for me to have that clear sound...also that bending..

Are you goin to post a video? :))

@Alex ... Awesome!!  You really pick things up quick!

Do you think knowing Everybody Ought to Change helped you with this tune?

Hope all is well in Italy!

Hi Corey,

Really enjoying this tune!  I'm getting the main riff and beginning riff down.  What would really help me for the next lesson is for you to play and break down one full chorus really, really slowly.  It's cool in that I think working on some of the previous tunes, especially Everybody Ought to Change Sometime, has helped me with this one.  Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Awesome article!!!!  Thanks for getting the word out!!!
