Ginseng Sullivan

Intro Breakdown

Hello Everyone!

This week I’ll be showing you how to play the instrumental intro to Ginseng Sullivan. This intro is pretty straightforward - there are a few syncopations to be mindful of but as always, if you can sing it, you can play it. So make sure you can sing it first. Also, there’s a new way that I’m showing you to play a G triad in the context of melody playing that provides a beautiful splash of color. I hope you enjoy!

Chris, Merry Christmas, thanks for all the lessons this year, I signed up for another year, so maybe some more notes will sink in throughout 2018. I have carefully noted how lightly and fluid that you work a pick up and down the strings, on all of the songs you teach. I have been working on the lighter touch with Whiskey before Breakfast and Wildwood Flower. Hope you and Julian will consider Austin again for another concert in 2018. I am requesting Ginseng Sullivan in advance. Roy Cotton

While watching football I decided to record this ... probably not there yet but I'll keep working on it.

If I can Iearn a break for this I might be tempted to sing it which is good news for rme and bad news for you  : )

Ha! Singing is good news for all of us! One issue here: the first note of the intro isn't being played on the downbeat. Rather than starting with strumming try counting 1, 2, 3, 4 out loud and when you get back to the next "1" that's when you play the first note. Try it again with that in mind.

Sweet ... I figured I'd get the timing issue out of the way early on this time ... with the very 1st note to be precise.

Just kidding.  I'm on a mission.

Thank you!

Thanks Chris for doing this. Very cool.  I'm kind of disappointed in myself for not being able to figure the intro out on my own but I'm not too good at that sort of thing yet. Maybe someday ... just like improvisation ... maybe some day when the fretboard makes more sense to me.
