Texas Jump Blues > Intro, Rhythm and First Verse

Hi Folks,

This week we start on Pee Wee Crayton's Texas Hop. The quintessential instrumental guitar jump blues. This week we learn the intro, the rhythm during sax solo and first lead chorus. This is going to be fun! So dig in and get to work and I expect to see lots of videos posted at the end of this one.

Enjoy!

Duke

Great song! This one will really be fun. It reminded me of "Guitar Shuffle" by Lowel Fulson, which I love, so now I'm working on both of them. I have a 78 of Guitar Shuffle. ;-) Looking forward to your new online show at The Blues Alley (6PM EST tomorrow, June 10 - Google it) to hear more great music! Thanks Duke!

Thanks Duke! Absolutley love Pee Wee Crayton. Please could you share any tips on how you're setting tone on your Strat, and amp, to get Pee Wee's sound?

Cheers

Hi Charlie, Well I am using the middle pickup with tone nearly wide open. I set the amp with treble about 5 and bass 3 or 4. Just flat and clean without too much twang. I also have an .011 to .049 set on that guitar.

Hi Duke, you mentioned that you suffer from arthritis. I have the same problem in my left forefinger and it is very frustrating. Is there anything you can recommend to reduce the impact on guitar-playing capability?

Thanks! Steve

Boy that's a tough one Steve. A good low carb diet helps and I have a tip Herb Ellis gave me. Put your hands under very warm running water before playing. Maybe 5 minutes or so. It helps quite a bit.
