I'm Confessin'

A Section Chord Melody

Hi Folks! This week we’re learning the melody to “I’m Confessin’”. I’m going to show you my arrangement that I derived from listening to Les Paul’s version. I include his typical use of the whole tone scale and chromatic riffs along with chords to accentuate the melody of the first A section. We’re gonna have a lot of fun with this one!

Enjoy, Duke

Very good job Bruce! As far as inexpensive archtops the Gretsch are very nice. Epiphone make a very on with a floating pickup that is a good sounding acoustic archtop. Ibenez makes, some, nice ones also. Duke

Love it Duke - thanks so much for opening this tyle up to be. I love Les Paul (saw him once at the Iridium) but was always too reverent to even think of going near his style!

ps Bruce re inexpensive archtops - Gretsch have one out called the New Yorker for about £300. Seriously thinking of investing - got a lot of nice guitars, but no pure acoustic archtop (am playing this tune on my Gibson ES175 and Les Paul, but would love to take it back to Eddie Lang style/sound)

Here's my attempt at this, recycling last week's homework for a backing track. ;-) Do you have any recommendations for not too expensive archtops? Have you tried the Loar guitars? They look beautiful and are pretty affordable, but I haven't had a chance to try one. Would you opt for one with pickup or without for just playing at home? Thanks, Duke!  Great lesson!

Absolutely beautiful Duke!!  I just love how you mix the chords and melody together --- with a chord fragment or two for good measure.  Great stuff!
