Darling, You Know I Love You > Chords

We're off to a great start with a fabulous tribute to B.B. King with his "You Know I Love You" with Monster Mike Welch doing his great rendition of the tune instrumentally. As always we start with the rhythm. Being composed of two eight bar A sections an eight bar bridge and a final eight bar A section to complete the 32 bar chorus. Notice Mike's choice of picking in the rhythm with added triplets reminecent of some doo wop rhythm. Also it's exactly the strumming pattern as "This Boy" which is a classic example of this sort of rhythm guitar figure.

Next week we start work on the melody so get the rhythm and chords down this week.

Enjoy,

Duke

Finally got around to learning the chords, and I was knocked out how much fun the rhythm is to play. It was also a lot of fun playing along with the track. Thanks a lot for it!

How does it sound? I think I'm rushing a little in first chrorus, but it feels to me like I'm locking in okay on the second chorus. It felt really "cozy" playing it.

Hi, guys! Sorry I've been out of touch. I'm finishing up the backing track today and will have it sent to Mike C. by the evening.

Cool!  I've worked on this one a lot over time, but I'm sure Monster Mike will have some insights that I've missed.  Maybe I'll finally get it!  Just like he did on the All Your Love Lesson.  Played it lots, but I still learned a lot from the lessons.

As Mike says, a number of different versions of this one out there.  Here are a couple I've got bookmarked, along with the ones in the background listening here they give us many eras/ages of BB.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ATmw8u-PsI&NR=1  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqkWH4G1SRA#t=60

Duke, hope you include Brandy's II and Club Zircon in your autobiography, where a young impressionable Stevieboy saw you many times with Roomful of Blues!

Hey Everybody. I am glad you are digging this lesson. This a feature tune for Mike with the Bluetones and he is doing a great job of teaching it. He's the perfect guy to teach this style with that amzing vibrato of his. I am looking forward to seeing you all play it along with the track soon. In the meantime, I myself have started physical therapy and am on my way to healing. It will take time but I'll be back before too long. I'd also like to make you aware of a few things happening with me. And also, I believe Mike Caren will have an anouncement about a new step forward for Sonic Junction soon.

I myself have a new cd due out September 25th called " The Acoustic Blues and Roots of Duke Robillard."  It's an 18 song album of a mixiture of acoustic old time blues, a few new tunes and some old time Jimmie Rodgers, Delmore brothers and even a Stephen Foster song. It's something I've been working on for a long time and it will be available soon on my website.

Other news is that myself and Marty Gunther are putting together a book of my photographs of blues and jazz musicians taken from 1990 to 2005 with vintage film cameras. I will let you know when it becomes available.

I am also working hard on a auto biography which journalist/guitarist Bob Angell is helping me write. So you see as I'm healing I am keeping very busy but most of all, I look forward to getting back to teaching my lessons here at Sonic Junction. I'm the meantime, I could have no better substitutes than Paul Kolesnikow and Mike Welch while I heal up. Keep up the good work and I'll see you here before long! Duke

BTW, Sonic Junction Mike (as opposed to Monster Mike), the 3rd to the last chord of the B section should be E7/B, not Eb7/B.

Thanks Bruce --- you're right --- fixed.

Hey Monster Mike, great tune and lesson! All the vibrato in this tune will *definitely* be a challenge for me. But I will get it eventually! Like this new t-shirt I got says, I have a plan. ;-) Good to see you again, and thanks.
