Cotton Blend

6th Chorus Breakdown

This verse begins with a figure I lifted directly from Cotton. Around bar number five, it transitions into a cute little teaser on the 3 draw, probably inspired by Jr Wells. Then the verse gets darker and more ominous sounding as it returns to the I chord and moves toward resolution.

This verse and this set of lessons in general, is going to be particularly useful for learning where and how to apply the tools of textural and tonal contrast.

Next week we'll address this verse from the V chord on out.

Thanks for shining a light on some of the things that make James Cotton's playing so powerful and unique.  He's long been one of my heroes.

Cotton's got his own way of milking the maximum emotion out of the harp. He always gets to me in a big way.

Hi Antonio - Nice mic - It's crazy how rare they've become. When I was first playing, I could buy them in electronics stores for $12.00!
