All Around The Kitchen > Am Chord, Palm Muting and Mixing In Riffs

Hello guitar sheroes and guitar heroes! It’s time to put a tune for young people into our social music song bag. In this case it’s a classic by the name of All Around the Kitchen, a freeze dance that I learned from a recording by Pete Seeger. It’s one chord, Am. Things don't get much easier that this as far as the chording hand goes. We’ll break the song up into three distinct parts: the chorus, the verse, and the instrumental section. Alternating bass notes? Yes, of course! Rhythmic scratching of muted strings? Yes, that too! Plucking a melody on individual strings? Yes, that too! We’ll also talk about taking the spirit of the recordings we love and figuring out our own versions based on the feeling of the songs. It’s social music and there are no wrong answers. This is a complete lesson, both the chording and the strumming hand are explored here. There are as many ways to play this song as there are hair colors and I can assure you that young people in your life will be happy that you took the time to learn All Around The Kitchen!
