Hi Folks, This week we are working on the second A section of the solo for Flying Home. I chose to use the actual Charlie Christian solo this time and will continue with the solo from the master take. I suggest getting a metronome for the rest of this song. Charlie's timing is as important as the notes he plays and the metronome is a good way of understanding Charlie's approach to soloing.
Have fun! Duke

I aim to revisit a lesson series a week, starting with this gem of a song. Haven't finished series yet, but took a rough take at the halfway mark. I LOVE Charlie Christian - it's invaluable to me to have his work taught by a master. Thanks Duke!
Steve, That sounds good. To assimilate the concepts are very useful and if you can add phrases to your arsenal that's always a good thing! Duke
Hey Duke
I went straight into this weeks lesson not having enough time for last weeks. i listened to it and you mentioned going over it again. I think the challenge will be putting this all together. The lessons are great and practical. I use whatever i pick up at my gigs, Being an 8 piece swing band, the additional knowledge is fantastic. Keep it going. I have gone back to many of the other lessons, but will upload the new ones. Cheers and keep swingin
Listening to the recording, it sounds like Charlie might be doing call and response with Benny. I wonder how many of the "holes" are there so that Benny can get in a lick
