Hi David .. thanks!  Glad we got it fixed.  So everyone knows, Safari needs the latest version of Flash to record video.  Have a great weekend everyone!

@Alex .. you sound GREAT !  I'm going to post a video in a day or two.  Fun seeing you play it.

Hey Corey .. I'm getting it!  It's amazing what happens when you practice slowly and then sleep .. and try again the next day.  I will post a video later this week.

For me, it would help if you could break down the bridge really slow next week .. thanks!

Hi David .. OK.  I use a Mac, so I don't think that's the issue.  What type of computer do you have?

Feel free to email me at mike@sonic-junction.com I would be happy to work through it with you.    Also, if you want to email me your phone number (please don't post it as a comment) we should either have it fixed or know the issue in about 5 min.

Thanks!

Hi David .. OK.  Very helpful.  Thanks.

In order to record video, Sonic Junction needs permission to turn on your webcam.  This is a security feature which is in place so random website don't start turning on your webcam and recording video.  So, after you click on the Record Video button, do you get this window?  If so, please click on "Allow" and you should then see yourself in the preview window.

Hi David,

OK. Looking forward to seeing your video!  A couple questions

1. are you able to see the vidoe of yourself in the record video preview window?

2. after recording (press record to start recording and stop to stop recording) ... you need to wait 10 seconds or so before the recorder will play back what you recorded

3. when you click play what happens?

4. when you click save (this is the last step) .. what happens?

This is great feedback as we can use it to make the design easier / simpler ... and also know what instructions to include.

Thanks!

I tell you Corey ... your slide playing sounds so beautiful ... and mine's like a drunk cat!  I'm still working on getting the melody and bass together.  It's easier this time compared to Keep Your Lamp Trimmed ... but I still need a lot of work to get it to come naturally so I can concentrate on the melody with the slide.

Beautiful song Corey.  I'm working on getting the melody right now ... both playing it alone and also singing it when I play the bass only (like you suggested on Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning).

My playing is still a little slopply ... are there any tricks or suggestions for how to pick with the right hand?

Thanks!

I'm still enjoying practicing this one.  I'm working on intonation now.

Hi Duke .. cool .. thanks!

Sorry .. but one more .. are there any ways is it different than speaking?

Mike Caren
Mike Caren commented on: Slow Blues in C Lesson 1 Mar 07, 2012

Hi Duke .. that makes a lot of sense .. and reminds me a lot of language / speaking.

How similar is speaking to when you solo?

What I mean is .. when I speak (or even type like this) .. I have an intention or idea about what I'm going to say, but the exact words just flow from my unconcious .. i.e. I don't actually think about every word I'm going to speak, I don't think about the grammar, punctuation etc.. I just have an intention / idea and the words flow.

I ask as what you are describing sounds similar ... and I can definitely recognize in myself the difference between my ability to speak with my mouth (or even type) vs. play music (speak) through my guitar.

Thanks!

Hi Duke .. I'm really enjoying this lesson .. thank you!  It's going to be some work for me to create really emotional solos.  I can run around and play pentatonic licks ... but have trouble making them powerful emotionally / musically.

First question .. what's in your mind when you are playing a solo like this?

Are you thinking about scales, chords, hearing in your head what you will play next, imagining emotions / moods you want to express, is it just flowing ... or is it something else?

Thanks!

Hi Rich .. Great tune! I'm going to be jamming with that one.  It sounds like it is C# / Db to my ears.  That guitar lick at 1:46 is awesome!

Hi Jerry and Rick .. great lesson!  After I heard that second groove, I had to pull out my guitar and play along with you guys.  I have to admit is was a lot of fun.  Great guitar riff Rick!  I still need to work in getting on the back side of the beat.

Hi Slim .. what you say makes a lot of sense.  It's great to get your perspective as you're a stronger player than I am.

It would be great to understand how you use the lessons.  Some questions on my mind are

1. Do you watch the whole video first and just "get it" ?

2. Do you use the set loop points .. or make your own?

3. Do you listen for a bit .. hit stop .. and then experiment with the thought / concept Duke share to make it your own?

Really appreciate the time / detail as this helps me to make the experience work for players at your level.

Thanks!

@Slim .. Glad you like the approach on this one.  Can you tell me a bit more about how you learn / practice from a lesson like this.  I want to make sure I understand so we build on this.

Great to get everyone else's thoughts too.  Thanks!
