Sweet Georgia Brown > Lesson 3

Well Folks, This week we continue with our "Sweet Georgia Brown" lesson. I start by going over the melody again with some embellishments then on to soloing. I demonstrate a number of simple ways you can play over the changes showing faIrly easy riffs based on 7th and 9th chords. I show lots of options for note choices and even how T-Bone style can fit in places. We also work on how to resolve the second 16 bars of the tune in soloing. Next lesson I will elaborate more on soloing over the changes. Good luck and keep the videos and questions coming folks. Don't forget to spread the word about Sonic- Junction! Duke

Hi Duke! I've been working on this lesson from "before my time" at Sonic Junction, and it's really helped me a lot. I've been listening to tons of Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis, but especially Herb. Herb's lyricism combined with his amazing time and sense of playfulness is just so entrancing. There's an incredible hour long video of him teaching on YouTube. I must have watched it at least 10 times so far and I enjoy it and get more out of it each time. I've put a lot into this one, and would love to hear what you think of it! Thanks, Duke -- amazing lesson and such a handy thing to have some experience with those classic changes, since they get used so often. Best, Bruce

Hey Bruce, sounds great and I can hear some herb licks in there. There's alway blues in herb's playing! great job, Duke

Hi Joey, I will look into that and see what I can come up with on the chord solo idea. Thanks, Duke

Hello Duke. This is a real honor to get to learn from you and also talk to you. I'm a big fan. Any chance you could cover some chord solo technique like what you played at the end of your solo on "Tiny's Tempo"?

Hash Brown told me anytime I can learn from the master, I had better take advantage. All this time I thought he was the master:)
