Mr. Lee's Mambo

Sixth Chorus Breakdown

Hey Sonic Junction -

This week we've got verse 6 of "Mr. Lee's Mambo". Remember back in verse 4, how it began with a semi-dramatic "shifting gears" by starting on the 2nd beat? This week's verse starts on the 2nd beat too, but with a different feel and attitude. Verse 6 begins kinda casually, by almost slipping in on that 2nd beat. From there it makes a nice transition into the IV where we reference a familiar bass line, then on the V we get slightly casual again and "shift gears" to begin the V lick on that 2nd beat. And as always, the primary objective in the construction of this verse (and the song) is to make apparent sense and tell a story - tone, texture, time, the shape of the notes, and the melody all work together to (hopefully) make that happen.

And remember, the main thing is, have fun with it!

and PS - Let me know what you think!

Hey Andre - Great job on th 6th verse! The only thing that needs a little adjustment is the last lick. You're starting it the right spot, but listen more closely to the lick itself. It's different than what you're playing. The rest of the verse, up until that last lick is just about perfect!
