Half Steppin'

Second Chorus Breakdown

Hey Sonic Junction - This week we've got the second lesson on this piece we're calling "Half Steppin". This lesson deals with verse two. In this lesson, we get a new opportunity to zero in on and refine some of the things we addressed last week. Once again, we've got the same chordal bed of groove that we used last week and some of the same quick "stabs" with the three draw - but there's also some variations. By referencing the first verse, I'm attempting to create the impression of "meaning" - maintaining thematic continuity while introducing minor differences. This way, we're building a song, rather than stringing together a random sounding patchwork of verses. Trying to describe it, I think I'm making it sound more complicated than it is!

Stay in the pocket and have fun!

Rick

Hi Tom - You did a real good job on the first verse! Go back and listen to the last lick of the verse - the one that repeats on every verse going back to the I change - You're missing the 2 hole blow. Otherwise, really good job!

Oooups! you're right, I'll try to add that, the rolling effect, the other side tongue bloc of the 1 hole. It's hard but usefull to progress! Thanks again

I think I know what you're saying.  I thought it was a bend thing as opposed to going back and forth between holes, so I think I can work it out.  If not I'll pester you again :)

thanks

B

Let me know if that helped enough for you to work it out. If you have any more questions about this lick or anything at all, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Rick,

Maybe you're going to talk about this later in the series but if not could you say something about the little roll on the 2-draw in that ending part that repeats each verse?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill - Once again, good ear! I'm not sure if I address that or not, but it's a little quick release from the bend and back again that produces that rolling effect.

Built with so much intelligence, thanks for this gift! Let's go training now...

Thanks Tommy - I'm not so sure about the intelligence part :-)
