You Can Make It If You Try > Left Hand Rhythm

This week will start the blues tune, "You Can Make It If You Try", (with a New Orleans groove) written by Gene Allison in 1957.

Again, this first lessons' focus is on the left-hand. If you remember my past references to the New Orleans R&B groove called 'The Popeye', this lesson certainly fits that reference and mold.

Remember these lessons are to build your left hand. Study every day for at least 20 to 45 minutes and please by all means use your metronome. Start slowly!

Also remember if you are just discovering this style of piano or your primary instrument is not piano and you're just taking some lessons here to sharpen your skills, don't forget that the left hand is extremely important. We will study comping, etc. with the left-hand later, but as for now, a good solid rhythm player is what I'd like for you to focus on becoming.

Lastly, remember I'm playing most of the left-hand stuff in octaves...please do the same!

Be in touch! Let me know just what's going on!

And don't be afraid to post your video up and or go back to a past lesson for reference!

Good jammin' my peoples!!!!!
