Third Is The Word

Fifth Chorus Breakdown

Hello Everyone! Welcome back to my 3rd Position piece “Third Is The Word”, where this week we cover Chorus 5 and utilize almost two full octaves of the harmonica. The beginning of this chorus has us doing a little bit of call & response with ourselves, only to move further up the harp and move into the high end of the middle octave. Also, we will be playing a long wailing note in there, so be sure you have good control of your breath, or you may turn a little blue…Word!

If timing is an issue, spend some of your practice time playing with just a metronome. It is boring and annoying, but is the BEST way to help. And I would work on some rhythm playing with a metronome....thanks!

I find it really helpful to go back and watch Dennis's intro, where he is accompanied by guitar. Hearing the chord changes helps me dial in where the down beat is and where I have to place certain notes.

You're tongue blocking right

Yes indeed...unless I state otherwise, everyhting I play is tongue-blocked.

Keep in mind, if you don't tongue-block you can still work on the notes, patterns, etc....and then work on tongue-blocking clean single notes in separate practice time until you get it down.
