T Bone Walker > Stormy Monday Solo 1

Hi Folks, This weeks lesson is working on soloing on the T-Bone blues classic "Stormy Monday." We will be working on a solo chorus that employs most of T-Bones main signature ideas like bends, double time licks, two same note lines on different strings, and the use of 9th chords below and above the root chord. You should try using these basic ideas and make your own solo using the basic techniques taught here. Enjoy and see you next week! Duke

Hi Michael, Yea the T-Bone thing is deceiving. It's the swing in his phrasing that makes it so cool The way he assembles a line really makes you listen! DukeĀ

Second that on the T-Bone lessons. It's really amazing how much he gets out of that single position and combining the blues scale and Mixolydian. He has obviously a repertoire of moves and those one can learn. But even though I've been listening to him for 20 years, his overall sense of phrasing is a nut I'm still trying to crack. Because if you just play in his position adding the 6th and the 9th to the blues box and can't do it with something resembling his phrasing, it comes off as sounding like beginner blues box noodling. I don't know if that makes sense, but I'm getting a better sense of it from this and the T-Bone Shuffle lesson. Thanks for that, Duke.
