Salute to Charlie Christian > B Section Head

Hello Folks,

This week's lesson is on the bridge in the head at the first chorus. This bridge sounds like an improvised bridge to me rather than a written melody. There is a lot of Charlie Christian style phrasing here which is the whole idea! Paul does a great job of replicating Barney's bridge and playing along with Paul and the metronome should be not so hard to do once you actually have the melody and it's timing in your head. I recommend listening over and over to Barney's recording on the bridge until you can sing every note and it's timing.

Remember, practice makes perfect!

Enjoy, Duke

Sounds really good Bruce. You're swing feel phrasing is sounding more natural also. More relaxed. Good job and I'm looking forward to the improv section also to hear everyones playing. I'd like to hear you all improvise on it to see what you all are getting out of it. Of course learning Barneys solo is a great idea also!

We could try improvising over Paul's chord lesson. I'll put that in my to do list.

Cheers

Thanks Duke

Yes yes, P90s.  I used it the first day i got it for a show. I was promised a Super in the backline but our horn section set up in front of it before i had a chance to have them move it. I ended up using an amp with a bit too much dirt for me. Next time.

Cheers

Wow, the tricky part for me here is coming out of the B back into the A.

Cheers

Great stuff. I'm phrasing the last bit of the B section a bit differently than you, Paul, but it seems to work out.

I feel like my swing phrasing has improved a bit on this  -- hope you think so too! ;-) Looking forward to the improv section!

Thanks Paul and Duke!

Bruce
