Lively Up Yourself > Chords, Rhythm and Hybrid Picking

Greetings Guitar Playing Wild Women, Men, and Children! It’s Carnival Weekend in Brooklyn complete with the West Indian Day parade and I live very close to Church Ave which is officially dedicated as Bob Marley Boulevard. So of course this is the song of the week. Lively Up Yourself may seem like a Social Music side step but I think that there’s so much room to move in this song that you can easily make it your own and have the crowd singing with gusto. In today's lesson we’re going to take this rich 2 chord Bob Marley song and learn it in the key of D - we’ll work with a D7 and G7 rocking back and forth from beginning to end. Although a few open strings can ring out and add to the song these chord shapes we’re using are basically closed which means you can play it in this style in any key if you venture up the neck. If you’re planning on auditioning for a Bob Marley cover band this lesson may not increase your chances of getting the gig but if you’re interested in some jams that can get seriously swinging, this lesson might hit you hard!

I hope you enjoy it!!
