Grand Slam > Chords and Intro

Hello Folks,

This month we are learning Grand Slam (aka Boy Meets Goy) the great Benny Goodman Sextet tune. I particularly love the boogie woogie figure here that many guitar players of the 40s and 50s employed after hearing this tune. Charlie Christian plays a perfect 2 chorus solo after the head that Paul Kolesnikow has written out and teaches you. I often quote from this wonderful solo.

So get the intro, boogie figure and chords down this week.  Next week we will tackle the first solo chorus.

Enjoy,

Duke

Looking forward to this series after I clear Gate's Okie Dokie Stomp from the to do list. Good thing youtube has a 50% speed option. :)

I like this riff and intro perfectly. Here I start at about half volume or so, and then turn my guitar's volume to full on the rhythm.

Hi Ian --- nice work and thanks for posting.   For the boogie woogie --- I think Paul goes from the V right back to the I --- it's a slightly different form from most 12 bar blues.

You are both welcome and thanks for being part of sonic Junction! I love the solos on this and have borrowed heavily from them since the 70s, Great stuff! Duke

Love it! I have that box set and HIGHLY recommend it. I've owned and loved it since it was first released, but never had the courage to try and play any of it until Sonic Junction came along. Can't tell you how grateful I am to you all. Thanks Paul.
