Fishnet > Chords & Rhythm

Hi Folks, This week we are starting on a fun tune of mine called "Fishnet." It is actually a 13 bar blues but seems totally natural when playing it. It's a funky groove in G and has an interesting 5 change which starts on the 5 and descends chromatically with 13th chords leaving out the B chord only until you reach the 1 chord (G). It will be a lot of fun to play over these changes so first learn the different ways to play the rhythm and next we will approach soloing on it.

Enjoy! Duke

Duke,

I would like to cover your song Fishnet at my local blues jam. I believe I have most of the lyrics just from listening to it. Would it be possible to view the lyrics somehow ? I searched the net but couldn’t find them.

Thanks !

Hi Alan, Sounds good. The trick to making it sound more energetic is in more a wrist snap type thing. Try a more lose and faster wrist movement and it will feel less lazy. You are very close, Duke

Finally after 1 and a half days I figured how to load a video!! Use the Iphone! Whenever I hear myself play rhythm it kind of sounds like I'm lagging.

I hope this worked!

Hi Peter, My advice is to use less strings. You are really making it harder than it is by baring the chords. on the 1 chord, make a ninth chord formation then only hit the G, D and A strings. On the 4 and 5 chords only bar from the high E string to the D string with your 1st finger and play the third with your second finger. For the decending 13th chords only bar the first to the 4th string. and use your 2nd finger for the third and your 3rd finger for the 6th note. Just using the 4 top strings, once you are used to it, will make it infinately easier to play. Forget about full bar chords, I never use them. the low E string is totally unnecessary her. Hope this helps, Duke

Alright then.  Sat down and got to it.  Great song.

The only thing I can't make out is:

From Presidents to Preachers,

They all want to ?

I'm sure it's obvious.

Hi Scott, my album version is posted here so it should be pretty easy to write down the lyrics from listening. If there's a part you can't understand I'll gladly tell you what it is. Duke
