Rock Me Baby > Solo Lesson 1

Hi Folks, this weeks lesson is a solo on Rock Me Baby, BB King style. I start with the first lick from BBs original version then improvise a solo in his style from there. It's all in first position and next week we will go up to 2nd and 3rd position for another chorus. Have fun and send me some videos!

Enjoy, Duke

Lizalu, Some players who like really high action actually do bend with their fingers under the strings on purpose! Pretty strange to me but it's a what ever works kind of thing. The melody line on BB's version is pretty much constant throughout the song. It's up to the individual players how they want to arrange it really. Keep up the good work! Duke

I meant plain G string!

Hi Lizalu, Very good! You have a good feel and it can be hard to play that type of thing on a acoustic without a play G string. Great job, I enjoyed hearing you play it. Keep up the good work. Duke

Guys,

Here's my take. It's not perfect but seems to invoke the spirit of this style. My solos need more "major" sounding notes. Thanks for the pearls of wisdom Duke.

Thanks,

Steve

Gosh Duke.  I remember craving to learn B.B.'s early guitar solos.  Makes for bliss listening to it.  Even better playing it.  This is the soul of the Blues.

Thanks Mike, Yes, I agree, the click can help you understand the timing of each phrase much easier. I will use that more often or all the time possibly.

Beautiful Duke.  Just love those runs.  I agree with Rick, lot's of gems in this one.

The click track is really helping me.  I'm trying to keep my foot going to the click while playing it.
